True Enlightenment and Enlightened Master

Mere bookish knowledge or scholarship has always been condemned by all Enlightened Masters. Empirical knowledge only is helpful for oneself as well as for others.

These days, there is flood of enlightened masters around the world, as also on the Facebook, but rare of them are enlightened indeed. Such self-proclaimed masters seem to be enlightened by their words, but in deeds they are found bankrupt, in terms of wisdom, enlightenment or innocence.

Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa
True Enlightened Master, Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa

Once Swami Ramakrishna Paramhamsa elaborated this truth to one of scholars, Pundit (scholar) Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, saying “You don’t belong to that class, but mere pundits are like diseased fruit that becomes hard and will not ripen at all. Such fruit has neither the freshness of green fruit nor the flavour of ripe. Vultures soar very high in the sky, but their eyes are fixed on rotten carrion on the ground. The book-learned are reputed to be wise, but they are attached to ‘woman and gold’. Like the vultures, they are in search of carrion. They are attached to the world of ignorance. Compassion, love of God, and renunciation are the glories of Enlightened Ones.”

Unless the defilement of Greed, Anger and Delusion are completely cleared away from bottom of the heart, the turning about doesn’t take place in one’s deepest seat of consciousness, one’s life remain unchanged and un-transformed; the immense peace and love doesn’t pervade the life, though he/she looks very peaceful, very wise, and the borrowed words of enlightenment are delivered cleverly; in deep down such person remains unsatisfied, un-enlightened, and mischievous. They indeed are wise actors, who act just for name, fame and money.

When these Threefold Polluting elements are eradicated completely, the heart gets purified, suddenly the Immense Light of Truth illumines the whole inner being, which later manifests in outer being, in forms of enlightened thoughts and deeds.

The clearing away of these defilement itself is Sadhana, being mindful and watchful about it, itself is Dhyana Sadhana. The eradication of this defilement happens slowly, it takes long time as the life long habits (samskaras) are not broken off easily nor quickly. There is no quick fix of the errors. But once the defilements are cleared away the Light of Truth/Soul illumines suddenly, the Luminous Truth enlightens the whole being, and the life is transformed suddenly. The neighbors and your old friends may get surprised to see your new enlightened thoughts and behaviors, and they may misunderstand you, they may slander you, they may call you mad, crazy, but they ought to be ignored and to be felt compassionate for them. But slowly the Truth triumphs and establishes. Just take care of Truth, rest all the well will follow.

Everyone has to realize the Absolute Truth, God by oneself, by learning, practicing and living mindful & watchful life.
